High Adventure Camps

In the early weeks of June, Troop 281 goes for a different High Adventure camp and / or National Jamboree on a roughly Four-Year rotation.

Purpose of High Adventure Camps:

Young people naturally seek challenges to their physical and mental abilities as they strive to grow into independent adults. High adventure activities (those beyond the scope of the routine) entice them to “stretch” their comfort zone by allowing them to set challenging but achievable goals and complete them successfully. High adventure provides exhilarating outdoor experiences far beyond the ordinary. In overcoming the challenges of high adventure, young people gain confidence, humility, problem solving skills and self-reliance. They do this by acquiring a wealth of knowledge and skills. High adventure develops critical thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills. The activities stimulate good citizenship through teamwork and opportunities for leadership. High adventure is more than just a physical challenge. It is an experience in living and cooperating with others to meet a common goal. It is exciting because it is new and demanding, but obtainable. It is learning to overcome difficulties and learning to live in harmony with nature. It connects individuals to the land, developing a bond of respect for wild places and wild things. It emphasizes spirituality by bringing youth closer to nature. The challenges of high adventure activities inspire young adults to undertake many worthy challenges and to work together to meet common team objectives. It offers a meaningful and lasting experience in their lives.
