TROOP 281 NEW SCOUT PROCESS
Welcome to the Troop 281 New Scout resource page. Here you will find all you need to become a member of our troop.
Each spring Troop 281 welcomes up to 12 new Scouts into a New Scout Patrol that is mentored by one of our senior Scouts - the Troop Guide. Most new Scouts are Webelos 2's crossing over from Cub Scouts, but this is not a requirement. To join Boy Scouts you must be 11 years old, OR have completed the fifth grade and be at least 10 years old, OR have earned the Arrow of Light Award and be at least 10 years old - but have not reached age 18. Troop 281 is a youth ministry of the Anderson Hills United Methodist Church, so preference is given to members of AHUMC's Pack 281 and sons of church members.
We do not have special meetings to showcase the troop to prospective members. Instead, we invite all prospective members to visit any troop meeting of their choice. This can be arranged by contacting our Assistant Scoutmaster for New Scouts.
Here is the Application to Join Troop 281.
If you are accepted as a new Scout, you will need the following documents:
Parent Resource Survey (please print out one for each parent)
BSA Medical Form (to be done by your doctor BEFORE the first campout)
How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse (also in the Scout Handbook - to be done BEFORE the first campout)
